Arriving in Marfa, TX with a rented RV

Marfa itself has zoning code (Marfa City Code Chapter 14) that restricts overnight street RV parking, but enforcement is light outside Chinati Foundation Open House weekend (early October) when the population temporarily inverts and the city issues citation warnings actively. El Cosmico is the famous Bohemian camp + safari-tent property — they accept self-contained RVs with advance reservation and the rate reflects the brand.

The two state-park options in range are Davis Mountains State Park (40 mi north) and Big Bend Ranch State Park (90 mi south via the spectacular FM-170 River Road) — both run on Texas Parks & Wildlife reservation system. Big Bend National Park is the obvious anchor (115 mi southeast); the Chisos Basin road has a published 24-foot vehicle length limit that wipes most Class A from that loop. Plan fuel: stations along US-90 between Marfa and Sanderson are sparse and close on Sundays in places. The high-desert weather pattern is summer-monsoon (Jul-Sep afternoon thunderstorms) and winter cold-front (Dec-Feb overnight lows below freezing). Best window is October-November and late February through April.
