What the brochure doesn't tell you about renting on water
- Captain-license and boater-education rules vary by state — most states require a NASBLA-approved Boater Education Card for operators born after a state cutoff (often 1988+). A few states (Alaska, Wyoming, Arizona) have no statewide requirement. The listing shows your pickup state's rule before you book.
- Pontoons forgive beginners and dock like a slow car; ski/wakeboard boats are built around the tow rope, not the cooler; jet boats run rivers in 8 inches of water where a propeller would ground.
- Saltwater corrodes aluminum pontoon tubes without a freshwater flush, and several rivers (Rogue, Salmon, Snake) restrict renter-operated jet boats to permitted reaches only.
