The closest serious campground options are Travelers World RV Resort (8 mi S of downtown, full hookup) and Admiralty RV Resort (12 mi NW). Texas Hill Country campgrounds — Guadalupe River State Park, Garner State Park (US-83 to Concan, 90 mi NW), and Lost Maples SNA — are the standard weekend escape and book via texasstateparks.org 5 months ahead.
San Antonio sits at 650 ft elevation but the Hill Country climbs to 2,300 ft within 60 mi — modest gain that does not stress propane appliances. Plan dump and propane in town, base out of Travelers World or Admiralty, and book Hill Country state parks 5 months out for spring wildflower season.
When to come
Best: October through April: highs 62-78 F, low humidity, all parks operational. Trade-off: Fiesta saturates April.
Skip: July through August: highs 95-100 F daily; humidity oppressive; flash flood risk on Salado Creek + Olmos Creek during summer outflow events.
