Deception Pass State Park is Washington's most visited state park, spanning the dramatic strait between Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands. The iconic Deception Pass Bridge towers 180 feet above churning tidal waters, offering one of the most photographed vistas in the Pacific Northwest.
What to Expect: The park covers over 4,100 acres with old-growth forest, rugged coastline, and freshwater lakes. Campsites are spread across three areas — Cranberry Lake, Quarry Pond, and Bowman Bay. Cranberry Lake sites are the most popular, with lakefront access and short walks to the beach.
Activities: Tidepooling at Rosario Beach, kayaking through the pass (experienced paddlers only due to strong currents), hiking 38 miles of trails, and fishing in the freshwater lakes. The Cornet Bay boat launch provides access to the San Juan Islands.
Wildlife: Harbor seals, bald eagles, great blue herons, and during migration season, gray whales pass through the strait.
Tips for RVers: The Cranberry Lake loop accommodates RVs up to 40 feet with electric and water hookups. Sites are first-come on a limited basis, but most are reservable. The dump station is near the park entrance.
