Chisos Basin Campground sits at 5,400 feet elevation in the heart of the Chisos Mountains, surrounded by dramatic desert peaks. Big Bend is one of the least visited national parks — and one of the most rewarding.
Important for RVers: The road into the basin has tight switchbacks with a 24-foot vehicle length limit. Larger RVs should use Rio Grande Village campground (no size limit, full hookups, $16/night).
Dark Skies: Big Bend has some of the darkest skies in North America. The Milky Way is visible to the naked eye. Bring binoculars or a telescope.
Summer Warning: Temperatures exceed 110°F in the lowlands from June-August. The basin is 15-20°F cooler but still hot.

Planning notes
The Window Trail sunset hike is a must. 5.6 miles round trip with an incredible view.
Stargazing is the best I've ever seen. Bring a red headlamp and stay up late.
