Split Rock Lighthouse State Park sits on the rugged North Shore of Lake Superior, anchored by one of the most photographed lighthouses in America. The park features dramatic 130-foot cliffs, cobblestone beaches, and birch-lined trails along the greatest of the Great Lakes.
What to Expect: The campground is set in a dense birch and spruce forest with well-spaced sites. The cart-in sites along the lake are the most coveted — you'll fall asleep to the sound of Superior's waves. The RV campground has full hookups and easy access to all park trails.
The Lighthouse: Built in 1910 after a devastating storm sank 29 ships, the lighthouse is now a museum operated by the Minnesota Historical Society. Tours run daily in summer.
Hiking: Eight miles of trails wind along the lakeshore and through the forest. The Superior Hiking Trail passes directly through the park, connecting to 310 miles of continuous trail along the North Shore.
Fall Colors: Late September to mid-October brings spectacular foliage. The contrast of golden birch, red maple, and deep blue Lake Superior is iconic Minnesota.
Tips for RVers: Full hookup sites accommodate rigs up to 50 feet. The park is a popular basecamp for exploring the entire North Shore from Duluth to Grand Marais.

Planning notes
Walk to the lighthouse at sunrise — you'll have it all to yourself. Absolutely magical.
Lake Superior stays cold even in August. Great for cooling off after a hike, but not for swimming!
