Texas Hill Country Bluebonnets super-bloom
For a few weeks each spring the Texas Hill Country's back roads run blue with bluebonnets, the state flower, stitched through with red Indian paintbrush. It's a roadside bloom more than a single park, made for a slow RV loop between Fredericksburg and the Highland Lakes. Pull over often — and stay out of the flowers for the photo.
Typical window
Late March through mid-to-late April, peak early April
Signature flowers
Texas bluebonnet, Indian paintbrush, Indian blanket, Mexican hat, Winecup
Where
Texas Hill Country roadsides + state parks (TPWD / Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center)
Nearest RV base
Pedernales Falls State Park or Inks Lake State Park (electric + water)
Time it honestly
The Wildflower Center says fall and winter rain decides the bloom, so the peak is hard to predict year to year. Aim for early April, check current conditions, and never trample the bluebonnets.
