Tidal Basin Cherry Blossoms
The cherry trees ringing the Tidal Basin and National Mall are America's most famous bloom, descended from a 1912 gift of 3,020 trees from Japan, and the Yoshino variety the National Park Service tracks is the one that paints the water pink. For an RV traveler this is a city stop rather than a campground destination: there is no RV camping inside Washington, D.C., so you park in the Maryland or Virginia suburbs and ride transit to the basin. The NPS defines peak bloom as the day 70% of the Yoshino blossoms are open.
Bloom window
Peak bloom typically late March to first week of April; in 2026 the NPS reported peak bloom reached March 26. Blossoms generally hold for several days to about two weeks after peak, weather permitting.

Where
Tidal Basin and West Potomac Park, National Mall, Washington, D.C.
Nearest RV base
There is no RV camping inside Washington, D.C. Base in the suburbs and ride transit in: Cherry Hill Park in College Park, MD, or Greenbelt Park (NPS campground) in Greenbelt, MD are the nearest RV options; Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, VA is the closest Virginia base. The Tidal Basin itself is day-use only with no on-site RV parking.
Plan it honestly
Peak bloom is weather-driven and the Park Service says it is almost impossible to forecast more than about 10 days out; the date shifts every year and is never guaranteed. In 2026 the NPS reported peak bloom on March 26, but cool weather can extend the bloom while rain and wind can cut it short. Plan a flexible window and check the official Bloom Watch before you roll. Note the Tidal Basin is day-use only with no RV parking; arrive early by transit.
