Carrizo Plain, California super-bloom
In a good year the Temblor and Caliente ranges around the Carrizo Plain light up with goldfields and hillside daisies — one of California's most dramatic blooms, and one of its emptiest places. This is remote BLM land: no hookups, no services nearby, dirt roads that turn to muck when wet. Come fully self-contained and you'll have the color nearly to yourself.
Typical window
Spring; peak usually late March to early April
Signature flowers
Goldfields, Baby blue eyes, Hillside daisies
Where
Carrizo Plain National Monument (BLM)
Nearest RV base
Selby or KCL Campground (primitive, self-contained only — no power/water)
Time it honestly
Blooms here are heavily rain-dependent and can be extremely sparse in dry years. Camping is primitive (bring your own water and power), services are ~70 miles away, and dirt roads are impassable when wet — check BLM conditions first.
