Bruneau Dunes State Park sits in the high desert of southwest Idaho, where wind funnels sand into a cluster of dunes beside two small lakes. Its centerpiece is the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America, with a peak rising about 470 feet above the desert floor. Managed by Idaho's Department of Parks and Recreation, the park pairs the dune field with developed camping and a public observatory, making it an unusually well-served stop for RV travelers.

Features
Two lakes; Bruneau Dunes Observatory
The park's signature dune rises in near-isolation from the surrounding flats, which is what makes it so striking — there is no mountain range crowding behind it, just sand against open sky. Two small lakes at its base add a flash of water to the desert scene and draw anglers after bluegill and bass.
Bruneau is also one of the better dune fields in the West for an overnight stay, because the state park provides developed campsites rather than only primitive desert parking. That makes it a comfortable base for an RV trip through southwest Idaho.
After dark the park leans into its quiet, low-light setting with the Bruneau Dunes Observatory, which houses one of the largest telescopes available for public viewing in Idaho. Confirm current campground availability, site sizes, and observatory programs on the Idaho Parks and Recreation site before you go.
