Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota elk rut
The painted badlands of the South Unit make a wild backdrop for the fall rut, and on select September and October evenings rangers lead elk-bugling programs out into the buttes. Cottonwood Campground, in the cottonwood groves along the Little Missouri, is the natural RV base near Medora.
