Spring at Rocky Mountain NP is lower-elevation focused. Trail Ridge Road (the highest paved road in the US) remains snowed in until late May. Lower-elevation meadows (Moraine, Horseshoe Park) come alive with elk, bighorn, and wildflowers. Moraine Park Campground (typical opening mid-May, 40 ft max, no hookups) is the prize. Glacier Basin opens later.

Typically late May, depending on snowpack. The 48-mile road crosses the Continental Divide at 12,183 ft.

RMNP uses timed-entry reservations during peak periods. Check current year's policy on the NPS site.

Moraine Park, Horseshoe Park, lower meadows — dawn and dusk.
Can I camp inside RMNP in spring?

What the NPS site won't tell you
The NPS doesn't promote this: the Wild Basin section (south end of park, separate entrance) has spring hiking that often clears of snow before the Bear Lake area. Trailheads at lower elevation. Far smaller crowds. Calypso Cascades hike (1.7 mi each way) blooms with wildflowers in May.
