Quick answers
Frequently asked
Do I need a Cadillac Mountain reservation?
Yes — sunrise + day-time timed-entry. Book via Recreation.gov.
What's the best summer hike at Acadia?
Beehive Trail (1.5 mi with iron rungs) is the iconic adventure hike. Precipice Trail is harder. Beech Mountain is family-friendly.
Can I bike the carriage roads with my family?
Yes — they're car-free and crushed stone. Family-friendly. Rentals available in Bar Harbor.
How crowded is Acadia in July?
Very. Park Loop Road sees traffic. Reservation system helps. Best to bike or use the free Island Explorer bus.
What the NPS site won't tell you
Locals know: the Island Explorer free shuttle (June - October, funded by L.L.Bean) is the best way to avoid parking + traffic. Park your RV at Bar Harbor or campground, use the shuttle for everything. Multiple routes cover Park Loop, carriage roads, and town.
