Why PickRV boats are different
- USCG safety baseline on every listing. Required equipment (life jackets per person, Type IV throwable, marine extinguisher, navigation lights) verified at host onboarding — not assumed.
- Honest license context. Some states require a NASBLA Boater Education Card for operators born after a specific year. The PickRV listing surfaces the rule before checkout — not after.
- Weather addendum on every reservation. NWS small-craft advisory or marina-issued closure qualifies for a full refund under the weather addendum baked into the booking terms.

What the R V umbrella means on water
R V = Rental Vehicle OR Rent Vacation. Boats fit both meanings:
- Rental Vehicle on water. A pontoon or ski boat for a day — drive it, park it, return it. Same booking format as a car or RV.
- Rent Vacation on water. A houseboat for 3-7 nights — the boat IS the destination. Multi-day minimums, marina services, full vacation experience.
- Specialty rentals on water. Yacht charters for celebrations, sailing for sport, kayaks for nature. Each format is a different product — PickRV doesn't pretend they are interchangeable.

Pontoon
Family-lake favorite · flat platform · stable + easy
Pontoon boats sit on twin (or tri-toon) aluminum tubes that float the deck above the waterline. The flat platform makes them the easiest powered boat to drive — they steer like a slow car, dock like a slow car, and forgive the occasional bump against the cleat. They lose on choppy water (the flat bow pushes water instead of cutting it) and on speed, but for inland-lake family days they are the format that wins most often.
Ski / Wakeboard
Wake-shaped hull · ballast tanks · tower for the rope
Ski and wakeboard boats are inboard-powered hulls shaped to throw a deliberate wake. Modern wakeboats add ballast tanks (often 1,000-3,000 lb of water sealed in compartments) to drop the stern and grow the wake further. The boat is built around the rope — most do not double well as cruising boats.
Jet Boat
Jet-pump propulsion · shallow draft · river-rated
Jet boats use an impeller-pump in place of an exposed propeller. The pump takes water in from a grate on the bottom and shoots it out the stern. The result: a boat that can run in 8 inches of water without grounding a propeller. Jet boats are the river-runner of choice (Rogue, Salmon, Snake, Colorado, lower Snake) and the only way to legally power up many of those waterways.
Houseboat
Sleep on the water · multi-day vacation rental · floating cabin
Houseboats are the R V = Rent Vacation expression on water. A floating home with kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, and (often) a slide off the roof. Multi-day minimum bookings (typically 3 nights). Houseboats live on big reservoirs and slow rivers where the marina culture supports overnight tie-ups — Lake Powell, Lake Mead, Lake Shasta, Lake Cumberland, Dale Hollow, Norris, Lanier, and dozens of others.
Sailing
Wind-powered · bareboat or skippered · USCG-rated waterways
Sailboats range from 22 ft trailerable centerboard models (lake-friendly) up through 50+ ft offshore cruising sloops and cats (coastal-only). PickRV currently focuses on the bareboat (renter-operated) segment for sailors who can show prior experience, and the skippered (host-as-captain) segment for trips with crew.
Kayak / Canoe / SUP
Human-powered · paddle-quiet · launch from anywhere
Human-powered watercraft. Kayaks (sit-in for cold-water performance, sit-on-top for warm-water versatility), canoes (carrying gear or families), and stand-up paddleboards (SUPs — fitness + sight-seeing). The lightest, simplest segment of the R V umbrella — and the one with the lowest barrier to first-time.
Yacht Charter
Premium tier · 40+ ft · crewed or bareboat with captain license
Yachts over 40 ft cross into the premium tier. Bareboat operation of a yacht of this size legally requires the renter to demonstrate appropriate experience (most hosts require ASA 104/106 or a USCG OUPV captain license). The more common rental format is fully-crewed — captain, mate, and chef included.
Jet Ski / PWC
Sit-on personal watercraft · 1-3 passengers · day or hour rentals
Personal watercraft (PWC) — Yamaha WaveRunner, Sea-Doo, Kawasaki Jet Ski — are the most-rented small craft on US lakes. PickRV lists multi-hour and full-day PWC rentals on lakes where local regulations allow.

What boat sub-categories does PickRV cover?

Do I need a boating license to rent from PickRV?
Depends on the state and the boat type. Most US states require a NASBLA-approved Boater Education Card for operators born after a state-specific cutoff date (often 1988 or later). Human-powered watercraft (kayak, canoe, SUP) are typically exempt. The listing page surfaces the rule for your pickup state before checkout.
What if weather cancels my trip?
Every PickRV boat reservation includes a weather addendum: An NWS small-craft advisory (or higher) — or a marina-issued closure — on your booking date qualifies you for a full refund under the weather terms of your booking.
How is PickRV different from established boat-rental sites?
Three things. First, no fees sprung at pickup — the listing price is stable and all-in; the only checkout add-ons are a transparent 10% service fee and your state tax, both itemized before you pay. Second, USCG safety baseline is verified at host onboarding, not assumed. Third, multi-sub-category coverage — pontoons through yachts on one platform, with per-sub-type context on each page.
Is PickRV's optional coverage available on boat rentals?
Yes — same optional liability coverage as on RV/van/car rentals. Carrier name, NAIC number, policy limits, deductible, and AM Best rating are disclosed at checkout. The coverage stacks with the host's commercial boat insurance. PickRV is not the insurance underwriter.
Can I tow my boat trailer with a PickRV RV rental?
Most RV rentals allow towing within the rig's rated tow capacity. The listing shows tow rating; you provide the boat trailer. Some boat rentals include trailer delivery — listing notes which option applies.
