Trailered vessels must pass an aquatic-nuisance-species inspection before launching at most Colorado reservoirs; stations keep posted hours and launching outside them is prohibited.

Dillon Reservoir is Denver's drinking water — no swimming and no body contact at all, which blindsides visitors who booked it expecting a lake day.
Blue Mesa's level swings tens of feet with Aspinall Unit releases; late-season low water closes the Iola and Cebolla ramps well before Elk Creek.
ANS inspection lines at Chatfield and Horsetooth on a July Saturday can run past an hour — the same boat clears in five minutes midweek.

Does a rented boat still need the ANS inspection?
If it is trailered to a ramp, yes, and hosts build the stop into the handover. Boats already slipped at a marina on the same reservoir are handled under that marina's program.
Can I swim at Dillon Reservoir?
No. Dillon is a municipal water supply for Denver and all body contact is prohibited, including wading. Green Mountain and Lake Granby are the nearby swimming options.
Is high-altitude sailing different?
Thinner air means less sail force at the same wind speed, and Dillon's mountain wind arrives in gusts rather than steady pressure. Reef earlier than you would at sea level.
