The Painted Wall — 2,250 ft of vertical granite cleaved by the Gunnison River — defines the South Rim experience, and that geology dictates camping options. South Rim Campground accepts rigs up to 35 ft, with 23 sites offering 30A/50A electric (the only hookups in the park), mid-May through mid-October. North Rim Campground is dry-camp, 22-ft cap, and the access road from Crawford is gravel for the last 11 miles — Class A motorhomes should not attempt it. East Portal Campground sits at the river bottom, accessed by a 16% grade road with two 180° switchbacks that the park explicitly prohibits for any RV. South Rim Road handles 35-ft rigs to all the viewpoints with one exception (High Point requires the loop turnaround, capped lower).
