Glacier National Park · caps RVs at 40 ft

Going-to-the-Sun Road's 21-ft length and 8-ft width limits between Avalanche Creek and Rising Sun are the most aggressive vehicle restrictions in the national park system. The hairpins above The Loop and the granite overhangs at the Garden Wall make this a physical limit, not a courtesy ask — rangers turn rigs around at the checkpoints. Apgar, Fish Creek, and St. Mary campgrounds accept rigs up to 40 feet but sit at the road's outer ends, meaning the iconic Logan Pass drive requires a smaller tow vehicle or the park shuttle. All loops are dry-camp; the closest full-hookup option is West Glacier KOA outside the boundary. Many Glacier and Two Medicine campgrounds keep similar 35-40 ft caps but their access roads are wider and rig-friendly the whole way in.
