The channels between islands are not coastal water. The Alenuihaha between Maui and the Big Island funnels trade wind into some of the roughest water in the Pacific and is not a recreational crossing.
Shores flip seasonally: Hanalei and Waimea are calm summer anchorages and unusable in winter, while south shores do the reverse in July and August.
There is no inter-island vehicle ferry. A boat booked on Maui stays on Maui — trailering between islands is not a thing here.
