Generals Highway between the Foothills and Giant Forest implements one of the strictest length caps in the national park system: rigs over 22 feet are explicitly advised against, and rigs over 24 feet are formally prohibited on the section between Hospital Rock and Giant Forest. The reasoning is the road geometry itself — switchbacks tighter than commercial bus design accommodates, plus granite overhangs at four named locations. Potwisha Campground at low elevation in the Foothills accepts up to 24-ft rigs year-round; Lodgepole at 6,700 ft holds the 22-ft cap and runs May through October. Dorst Creek further north is similar. Dry-camp only across the system. The Mineral King entrance at the south is even tighter — 22-ft hard cap and a 25-mph gravel road for the last 20 miles.
