Highway 180 from Grant Grove down to Cedar Grove drops 4,700 vertical feet in 31 miles — one of the deepest paved-road descents in the national park system — and the road itself closes November through April every year regardless of snowpack. The pavement engineering can't be cleared at Cedar Grove's depth, so the in-canyon loops (Sentinel, Sheep Creek, Moraine, Canvas Cabin) all run a 4-month season. Sentinel Campground accepts rigs up to 30 feet; the others top out at 25 ft. None offer hookups. Dump stations at Sentinel and Azalea (in the Grant Grove section, year-round access). Grant Grove area campgrounds — Azalea, Sunset, Crystal Springs — accept rigs up to 30 ft year-round but Highway 180 below the Big Stump junction stays closed in winter.
