Westchester County's Bronx River Parkway (1925) was the first multi-lane limited-access roadway in the United States — predating the German Autobahn and the US Interstate System, and the engineering prototype for the entire post-war American freeway grid.
The county wraps the New York City northern suburbs along the Hudson River, the historic Sleepy Hollow / Tarrytown corridor (Washington Irving country), and the Croton Aqueduct trail (the engineering wonder that supplied New York City drinking water from 1842 to 1955). Croton Point Park on the Hudson accepts rigs to 35 ft with electric hookups; nearest full-hookup RV-friendly base routes to Bear Mountain SP across the river in Rockland County.
