Westchester County's Bronx River Parkway (1925) was the first multi-lane limited-access roadway in the United States — predating the German Autobahn and the US Interstate System, and the engineering prototype for the entire post-war American freeway grid.
The county wraps the New York City northern suburbs along the Hudson River, the historic Sleepy Hollow / Tarrytown corridor (Washington Irving country), and the Croton Aqueduct trail (the engineering wonder that supplied New York City drinking water from 1842 to 1955).
