Suffolk County's 912 sq mi wrap the eastern two-thirds of Long Island, the South Fork (the Hamptons) and the North Fork (the wineries), and the entirety of Fire Island National Seashore — the only NPS unit on the US East Coast accessible primarily by passenger ferry, with the Robert Moses Causeway from Babylon to Captree Island the sole vehicle bridge and even that route depositing the rig at a parking lot rather than at a campground (the Fire Island Lighthouse and Sailors Haven concession are foot-and-bike access only past the parking terminus). Hither Hills State Park's 165 oceanfront RV sites accept rigs to 40 ft with electric and water hookups; the rolling 9-month-ahead reservation window is the operational reality for any summer staging. Wildwood State Park on the North Shore (Wading River, rigs to 40 ft with electric, 322 sites) is the secondary state-park RV-friendly base when Hither Hills is full. Fire Island's western Watch Hill Campground accepts foot-access tent camping only — no RV access exists to any section of Fire Island National Seashore. Eastern Long Island towns (East Hampton, Southampton, Riverhead) all prohibit overnight RV street parking under town code.
