California operates a dedicated OHV regulatory system through California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division. Three state vehicular recreation areas (SVRAs) — Hollister Hills, Hungry Valley, Carnegie — host dedicated OHV loops at three difficulty grades, plus BLM Imperial Dunes (Glamis) and the Pismo Beach State Vehicular Recreation Area run separately.
California requires Green Sticker (CARB-compliant) or Red Sticker (non-CARB) on every OHV operated on public land. Red Sticker rigs are restricted to specific months at most SVRAs.
