Walking the Devils Garden Primitive Loop
The Devils Garden Primitive Loop strings together eight named arches — Landscape, Pine Tree, Tunnel, Navajo, Partition, Wall, Double O, and Private Arch — in a 7.9-mile route that doubles back along the slickrock spine north of Salt Valley. The trailhead is at the end of the Arches scenic drive, 18 miles from the visitor center, and shares a 140-spot parking lot with Devils Garden Campground (the only in-park campground; first-come March through October, reservable Nov–Feb, 40-ft rig cap, dry only). The primitive section past Double O Arch requires Class 3 scrambling on fin tops with significant exposure; first-time visitors who only want Landscape Arch can turn around at the 1.6-mile spur and bypass the loop entirely. Arches' timed-entry reservation system (April–October, 7am–4pm) gates trailhead access regardless of trail permits — without a slot, you cannot drive in to the Devils Garden lot.
Where the rig goes
Stage the rig, then walk in
The trail is administered by Arches National Park. On a trail like this the rig rarely reaches the trailhead itself — the planning fact is where it waits while you walk.
The staging trailhead holds roughly 140 vehicles, with room for oversize rigs.
Closest RV-friendly basecamp: Devils Garden Campground (in-park, 40-ft rig cap, dry only).
