What the official site doesn't tell you
PickRV editor's field notes
The CA State Parks site lists Lake Perris as 'open year-round' but Santa Ana wind events (Oct-Apr) can close the lake to boating for days at a time. Loop A (sites 101-167) is partially wind-sheltered by the Bernasconi Hills. Second non-obvious: the lake has TWO separate beaches — North Shore is family swimming with lifeguards; South Shore is boater + waterski heavy with no lifeguard. Third: 22mi paved bike path circles the lake; few visitors realize you can ride the entire shoreline. Fourth: Sail Cove on the north shore (1.4mi trail from RV loop) is the cleanest swim water in the lake.
