Second: on February 18, 2026 the National Park Service announced Arches will NOT require timed-entry reservations in 2026, reversing the 2022-2025 timed-entry program. That removes a major planning headache but pushes the bottleneck onto Arches parking lots and onto Canyonlands Needles District, where Squaw Flat (now the Needles District Campground) caps combined vehicle plus trailer length at 28 feet and has no hookups, no showers, no dump.

Layer on the Easter Jeep Safari (Mar 28-Apr 5, 2026, 60th anniversary, ~20,000 visitors), summer days where half of July tops 100 degrees, and BLM Field Office rules limiting Willow Springs and Kane Creek dispersed sites to 14 days, and arrival sequencing matters. Best season to come

Late September through early November and mid-March through late April (excluding EJS week): daytime 65-80F, cold-but-tolerable nights, Arches and Canyonlands parking lots clear by midmorning, BLM dispersed sites still available midweek.

Season to skip

Late June through August: half of July days top 100F, Moab can hit 105F, AC pulls hard on 30A pedestals, asphalt blisters tires on long pull-throughs, and slot-canyon flash-flood risk during the July-August monsoon spikes. Also Easter Jeep Safari week (Mar 28-Apr 5, 2026) if you don't have a reservation locked.

Unlawful to park any motor vehicle, commercial vehicle, or recreational vehicle on a public road, street, alley, or private property for purposes of human habitation or overnight camping.

What this means for you: Vehicles in violation more than 4 consecutive hours may be impounded; moving and re-parking on the same block within 24 hours is deemed continuous parking. No overnight street sleeping in city limits.

Your first hour in Moab

Before you leave the lot

Top off propane at Maverik #341 (985 S Hwy 191) or Farm & City (850 S Main) before 6pm. Maverik is the only 24-hour option but propane staff hours are limited; call ahead Sunday.
Dump and fill potable water at Maverik #341 free dump (left of store by diesel/RV lane, water on north side) before parking at your campground for the week.

Within the first hour

If staying on BLM Willow Springs or Kane Creek, drive in before sunset to claim a flat pad; both roads transition to dirt and night arrival risks high-centering or wrong-turning into a wash.
Stop at the BLM Moab Field Office or Moab Information Center on Main St for the current dispersed-camping map; rules and closures shift seasonally.

Before bed

Verify your rig length against Canyonlands Needles 28-ft cap before planning that day-trip; if over, swap Needles for Dead Horse Point or Island in the Sky day trip from Moab.
Buy ice and stage water jugs if visiting June-August; daytime cabin temp in a parked RV climbs 30-40F above ambient even with shades.

Before departure

Do NOT detach a travel trailer on any Moab street while you go off-roading: 4-hour street limit on RVs/trailers per MMC 12.16.020 triggers impound.

The mistake renters make

Avoid this trap

Sleeping overnight in your RV at a Moab city parking lot, Main Street pull-off, or trailhead lot inside city limits. Moab Municipal Code 10.04.230 prohibits overnight habitation in any vehicle on public roads, streets, alleys, or private property within city limits.

After 4 consecutive hours in violation, the rig may be impounded by Moab PD or designated officials per code, plus a fine under chapter 10.04. Tow + storage in Moab typically runs $250-500 for a Class C and can exceed $1,000 for a Class A or fifth wheel by the time you reclaim it the next morning. Move 2 miles south to legal BLM dispersed land off US-191 or pay $20-95 at any in-town campground instead.
