A first-magnitude spring discharges 42 million gallons of 72°F water per day from the Floridan aquifer — the headwaters of the Wekiva River and one of Florida's most powerful natural pools. The 60-site campground sits in slash pine and sand pine scrub a half-mile from the swimming area, electric and water hookups, 35-ft cap, year-round operation. Daily visitation caps trigger entrance-station closures by 11 a.m. spring through fall when downtown Orlando's afternoon-heat refugees overwhelm the parking lot. Reservations for the campground are independent of day-use caps; campers can swim before the gates close to day visitors. The Otter Camp primitive sites accessed via canoe trail are a separate paddle-in inventory. Manatee sightings in the lower river are routine November through March.
