Year-round
One of Florida's four original state parks (1931) — predating the state parks system itself by four years — Highlands Hammock preserves a 9,000-acre virgin hammock that Civilian Conservation Corps crews stewarded into developed access starting 1933. The 138-site campground spans full hookups (water/electric/sewer) at a 35-ft cap, year-round operation, with the dump station near the entrance. The CCC Museum on-site is one of only two anywhere in the state-park system. Loop Road tram tours run twice daily and surface alligators, white-tailed deer, and the resident wild turkey flock at vantage points the trail system can't reach. Booking opens 11 months ahead and snowbird-season (December through March) full-hookup sites fill in the first hour of the calendar opening.
