Second: Wekiwa Springs State Park, the closest natural-Florida campground inside the metro, opens its 60 RV sites to Florida residents 11 months ahead and non-residents at 10 months — summer weekends vanish the day the window opens at 8 a.m. Eastern.

Third: the rainy season runs roughly May 24 through mid-October, with peninsula sea-breeze collisions firing thunderstorms between 4 and 6 p.m. almost daily. Driving a 35-foot Class A through Apopka or down I-Drive during a 5 p.m. supercell with lightning crossovers is not a beginner exercise.

Add Orange County's RV-on-residential-property permit requirement and the City of Orlando's Chapter 39 street-parking restrictions, and arrival logistics have to be planned, not improvised. When to come

Best: Late October through mid-April. Daily highs 72-82F, rainy season has cleared (avg end mid-October per NWS Tampa Bay), thunderstorm risk drops from one-in-three days to occasional, and hurricane season ends Nov 30. Theme-park crowds drop the first two weeks of December and again mid-January to early February — ideal driving and campground availability.

Skip: Late August through early October. Insurance binders may exclude new RV policies once a named storm enters the Gulf or Caribbean.

Fill propane at U-Haul Kirkman Rd (600 S Kirkman) on the way in if you're staying I-Drive side; tighter rigs use Florida Mall U-Haul on OBT. Both close 7 p.m. weekdays.

Recreational vehicles, trailers and boats parked on public streets within Orlando city limits are restricted under Chapter 39, Article V (Stopping, Standing and Parking) of the Orlando Traffic and Parking Code. Overnight street parking of RVs in residential zones is not permitted as a general residential parking use. No legal overnight RV street-parking in city residential zones. Plan to be inside a campground or commercial RV park by sunset. Code enforcement responds to neighbor complaints; tickets and tow risk for repeat violations.
