The single in-city RV park is Boyd's Key West Campground (Stock Island, 4 mi east of downtown) with 200 sites including ocean-front and bayfront — it books 12 months ahead for January through April peak season and during hurricane warning windows the property evacuates to inland Florida City.
Bahia Honda State Park (40 mi NE on Big Pine Key) is the second campground option with 80 hookup sites on the legendary blue-water bridge crossings — reservations open 11 months ahead at floridastateparks.org. The Atlantic hurricane window (June 1 - November 30) is the primary planning constraint because evacuation off the Keys must happen on US-1 only — no alternate route exists, and contraflow north of Key Largo activates at the mandatory evacuation order.
Plan dump and propane at Boyd's, base at Boyd's or Bahia Honda, identify hurricane evacuation timing before booking June-November, and never assume the Old Town historic district allows oversize parking.

Best: December through April: highs 75-82 F, low humidity, no hurricane risk.
Skip: August through October: peak Atlantic hurricane window; humidity oppressive; mosquitoes peak.

The mistake renters make
Booking a Boyd's Key West Campground stay for late September or October without a pre-booked mainland inland reservation (Florida City KOA or Lake Okeechobee KOA). Mandatory evacuation of the Keys takes 8-14 hours on US-1 contraflow; without a confirmed mainland reservation, evacuees end up at Walmart lots in Homestead or further inland. Boyd's hurricane policy generally refunds only on county evacuation order.
