What it is
A pop-up camper is a folding / collapsing trailer with canvas-walled or hard-walled (Aliner A-frame style) pop-up sections that extend at camp.

Pitfalls (honest)
Setup time is 15-30 minutes at every campsite — extending canvas, propping bunks, raising roof, leveling. This is the tradeoff for the smaller travel footprint.
Canvas walls don't insulate. Pop-ups are 3-season campers; winter use requires supplemental heat and (often) skirting.
Bear-country use requires hard storage of food (canvas walls do not deter bears). Most National Park campgrounds in bear country provide bear boxes.
