Hoosier National Forest allows dispersed camping outside developed recreation areas, with a 14-day limit per site.
Indiana state parks are designated-site only and charge a per-vehicle gate fee on top of camping, with a higher out-of-state rate.
Indiana Dunes National Park's Dunewood Campground is the only NPS camping on the lakeshore and fills all summer.
Deam Wilderness prohibits vehicles inside the boundary — vans park at trailheads and everything past that is on foot.
Hoosier NF forest roads are hilly and narrow; a long-wheelbase van should scout turnarounds before committing to a spur.
