Sedimentary cliffs banded red, white, and tan rise 300 feet above the desert floor at the El Paso Mountains' western edge — a film-location landmark (Jurassic Park, Westworld, hundreds of car commercials) wedged between Edwards AFB and Death Valley. Ricardo Campground holds 50 sites at a 30-ft cap, dry-camp, year-round, with the dump station 0.5 mile from the loop. Highway 14 carries every rig in from either Mojave or Lone Pine; the loop road inside the park handles 30-foot motorhomes to every site but the satellite Hagen Canyon sites which narrow to 22 ft. The summer window (June through September) clears out as ambient temperatures break 105°F; October through April is peak, and the dark-sky designation (Bortle 2) makes new-moon weekends the busiest of the year.
