Named after the 19th-century miner Jacob Waltz and his alleged gold cache somewhere inside the Superstition Mountains — a legend that still draws an annual stream of treasure hunters whose names occasionally show up in search-and-rescue dispatches. The park sits at the western base of the Superstitions with the Flatiron, Weaver's Needle, and Siphon Draw all visible from the campground. The 138-site campground holds 30/50-amp electric and water hookups, 40-ft cap, year-round operation; the dump station sits near the entrance. Booking opens 12 months ahead and Phoenix-metro snowbird demand saturates November through March slots within minutes. Summer operates but afternoons clear 110°F May through September. The Siphon Draw Trail's terminus at the Flatiron summit is one of Arizona's most photographed sunrise vantages.
