Fuel -8¢/gal vs the national average and state-park camping about $38/night — across a typical trip, fuel, camping, and tax commonly add 40–60% on top of the host-set rental.
The Florida money fact
One number worth knowing before you go
Florida state parks book up 11 months ahead in winter. Expect $2/day RV-rental surcharge. Cheaper fuel than national avg.
Tax, by the statute
What Florida tax adds at checkout
7%
Effective combined rate (% components)
Florida RV rentals owe 6% state sales tax (§ 212.05) plus a discretionary county surtax of typically 1% (§ 212.054) — owed to the state, and not added by PickRV at checkout: PickRV holds no Florida certificate of registration (§ 212.18 requires one to collect), so the host remains responsible for this tax. The $2/day rental-car surcharge does NOT apply: Rule 12A-16.002(1)(c)2 expressly excludes RVs with living facilities, travel/camping trailers, and van conversions. A separate $1/day peer-to-peer car-sharing surcharge (§ 212.0606(3)) may apply to drivable RVs booked through a platform — under legal review, not currently collected.
Statute: Fla. Stat. § 212.05 (state sales tax) · Fla. Stat. § 212.054-.055 (discretionary surtax) · Fla. Admin. Code R. 12A-16.002(1)(c)2 ($2/day surcharge does NOT cover RVs with living facilities) · Fla. Stat. § 212.0606(3) ($1/day p2p surcharge — under legal review for drivable RVs)
