April – October (Dunewood)
Designated a national park in 2019 — the system's third-newest unit — Indiana Dunes wraps 15 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and the dune ecosystem above it. Dunewood Campground holds 66 sites at a 35-ft cap with 30A electric, April through October, dump station on-site. The campground is set back from the lakeshore (cooler in summer, sheltered from lake-effect snow timing in fall). Indiana Dunes State Park is adjacent and holds the most-visited dunes (Mount Tom, Mount Holden) plus a busy seasonal RV loop. The South Shore Line commuter rail runs the park's southern edge and serves as the access route into Chicago for day trips. Beverly Shores Station accepts RV parking for railway access.
