Year-round (Cedar Pass) · seasonal (Sage Creek)
Cedar Pass Campground holds 96 sites at a 30-ft cap, runs year-round, dry-camp with a dump station and (notably) cold showers in the bathhouse — water is provisioned by the concessioner and turns off November through March. Sage Creek Primitive Campground in the park's wilder west section is free, first-come, 30-ft cap, no water, no dump, and routinely visited by free-roaming bison who treat the camp's open grass as their browse. The Black Hills Wildland Fire Module rotates through the prairie every 5-7 years; the burn scars are visible from the loop road. Loop Road handles 30-ft rigs to every viewpoint but the Sage Creek Rim Road's washboard surface and one-lane sections discourage longer rigs.
