Pirate's Cove on the Manteo side of Roanoke Sound is the Outer Banks' marquee billfish tournament marina — 200 slips, 90-ft vessel-length cap, and the registration base for the Pirate's Cove Big Game Tournament that draws 130+ sportfishing boats every August. The marina holds no public boat ramps; trailerable launches happen 1 mile north at the NC Wildlife Resources Commission ramp at Manteo Waterfront (2 lanes, free, often full by 6am on summer weekends). Channel depth runs 8 ft at the marina basin and the Oregon Inlet 12 miles east is the operating saltwater outlet — Inlet shoaling is monitored daily by the USCG and the published controlling depth swings from 8 to 14 ft season-to-season. The marina lot prohibits RV parking; closest RV-friendly basecamp is the Cape Hatteras KOA at Rodanthe 20 miles south (50-amp, 45-ft cap, books 8 months ahead for July–August).
