RV travel guide
Denali Borough
County seat Healy, 12,750 sq mi across Alaska. Everything an RV traveler should read before rolling in — where you can boondock, the roads worth the detour, and the local rule that actually matters.

The county in brief
A traveler's read on Denali Borough
Denali at 20,310 ft is North America's highest summit and the most extreme vertical relief from base to peak of any mountain on Earth measured from continental plate — 18,000 ft of vertical from the Talkeetna boreal floor at 2,000 ft, exceeding Everest's 12,000-ft base-to-peak by half. Denali Borough wraps the eastern half of Denali National Park & Preserve, with Healy (population 1,000) the only town with year-round services.
Parks Highway AK-3 between Cantwell and Healy is the canonical scenic spine — paved, two-lane, with the only legal RV-friendly access to Denali's eastern boundary. Private vehicles can only drive to mile 15 of the park road (Savage River); access beyond is by NPS shuttle bus only, which limits any RV plan to dispersed staging just outside the park entrance on Parks Highway pullouts.
