Brewster is the largest county by area in Texas (6,184 sq mi, larger than Connecticut + Rhode Island combined) and holds the entire eastern half of Big Bend National Park along the Rio Grande's southernmost US bend. Alpine (population 5,884) at 4,481 ft is the county seat and the only town with full-service grocery + diesel between Fort Stockton and Marathon.
TX-118 from Alpine south to the Big Bend NP entrance is the canonical RV approach, with the Chisos Basin Road inside the park capped at 24 ft length and 20 ft trailer length by NPS posting due to switchback geometry above 5,400 ft. The Rio Grande Village Campground (the only Big Bend NP loop with electric hookups, 25 sites) accepts rigs up to 35 ft and runs reservations through recreation.gov 6 months ahead.
