The state's signature
Winter cranes at Bosque del Apache
Sandhill cranes and snow geese winter the Rio Grande marshes; the dawn lift-offs and sunset fly-ins at Bosque del Apache are the Southwest's signature wildlife hour. A seasonal window, honestly framed — no live count pretended.
Seasonal RV-timing verdict
When New Mexico is at its best
New Mexico's prime RV window is April to June and September to October. High desert is comfortable; summers bring monsoon rains and winters can be cold at elevation. Shoulder-season play: March and November are quieter but mountain passes can have late or early snow and nights are cold.
Know before you go
Monsoon thunderstorms July-September cause flash floods. Summer heat in lower deserts is extreme.
