About this area
The Wapiti corridor between Cody and Yellowstone's East Entrance runs 52 miles along the Shoshone River — and Theodore Roosevelt called it the most scenic 50 miles in America after he toured it in 1903. Eight USFS-operated developed loops line the corridor (Big Game, Wapiti, Elk Fork, Clearwater, Rex Hale, Newton Creek, Eagle Creek, Three Mile) with rig caps from 32 to 35 ft, all dry-camp, on-site dump at Wapiti. Grizzly bear protocol is the operating premise: every loop runs hard-sided-only restrictions for tents and enforces food storage with citations the first night. Reservations route through recreation.gov for the larger loops; first-come-first-served slots remain at Clearwater and Eagle Creek. Dispersed camping is allowed off corridor under the Shoshone MVUM but the bear restrictions extend a wide buffer.

Developed loops book through recreation.gov; dispersed camping is legal only where the ranger district's MVUM allows it. Both links go straight to the official source.
