Beehive Loop

The Beehive is the introductory iron-rung trail at Acadia — the same chain-and-ladder mechanics as the Precipice but in 1.5 miles instead of 2.1 and 450 vertical feet instead of 1,000. The route starts from the Sand Beach parking area on Park Loop Road, climbs the east face of the Beehive cliff via four exposed iron-rung sections, traverses the summit ridge, and descends a tame back-side trail past The Bowl pond. Sand Beach holds 200 cars in two lots; the upper lot is closer to the trailhead but RVs over 25 ft are explicitly redirected to the lower lot. The Island Explorer free shuttle stops here making it accessible from the Bar Harbor and Hulls Cove staging areas without bringing the rig in at all. The Beehive's iron-rung crux section is open year-round (no peregrine closure unlike Precipice) but ice glazing November through April puts it off-limits for most hikers.
