Year-round (limited winter access)
At 71,000 acres, this is Colorado's largest state park — a working state forest west of the Continental Divide that doubles as one of the Lower 48's most reliable moose habitats (the park's moose population, transplanted from Utah and Wyoming in 1978-79, now exceeds 600 animals). The Bockman, Ranger Lakes, and North Michigan campgrounds hold 100+ RV-friendly sites combined with electric hookups at a 40-ft cap, year-round operation in theory but Highway 14's Cameron Pass closes intermittently November through April. The dump station at Ranger Lakes runs in season. Reservations open 6 months ahead. Backcountry yurts (the Never Summer Nordic system) operate as a separate winter inventory, ski-in only. Wildlife encounters with moose require strict standoff (the park documents annual incidents).
