Tilted red sandstone fins of the Fountain Formation rising 300 feet out of the foothills — geologically the same formation that produces Garden of the Gods and Red Rocks Amphitheater further north — protected as a National Natural Landmark and a Colorado Natural Area. Roxborough is the rare state park that bans both pets and bicycles by regulation to protect the resource, and there is no developed campground at all. Day-use only. RV staging routes to Chatfield State Park (197 sites with electric, 12 miles north) or Cherry Creek State Park (135 full-hookup sites, 30 miles northeast). Timed-entry reservations are required summer weekends and access caps daily visitation at roughly 400 people. The Fountain Valley Trail loop (2.3 miles, no dogs) is the headline interpretive walk under the formations.
