The Frio River runs 2.9 miles through the park at the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country, and the late-1930s Civilian Conservation Corps stone pavilion hosts the longest-running outdoor dance concession in any Texas state park (Saturday nights, Memorial Day through Labor Day).
