The Frio River runs 2.9 miles through the park at the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country, and the late-1930s Civilian Conservation Corps stone pavilion hosts the longest-running outdoor dance concession in any Texas state park (Saturday nights, Memorial Day through Labor Day). The Live Oak Camping Area runs 138 sites with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer — full hookups, 35-ft cap, year-round. Pecan Grove and River Crossing Camping Areas are similar. Dump station at the entrance. Summer demand from San Antonio and Austin family caravans saturates every reservation slot March through August — the 11-month booking window opens at 8:00 a.m. ET and Friday-Saturday combinations clear before 8:05. Tubing the Frio is the headline summer activity; the river's spring-fed temperature stays around 70°F even in August.
