What R V means here
Here, R V means both Rental Vehicle (a rig you book by the night) and Recreational Vehicle (the legal NHTSA chassis class). PickRV uses the dual meaning deliberately — every rig in this catalogue meets both definitions.
What counts as a motorhome under R V
The NHTSA defines a motorhome (also called a Class A, B, or C RV) as a self-propelled vehicle with permanent living quarters that include a sleeping area, kitchen, bathroom, and water/waste systems integrated into the chassis.
Class A is the bus-style coach (24-45 ft) with the most living space and the highest fuel consumption (typically 6-10 MPG). Class B is the van-based camper (18-24 ft) with the smallest footprint and the easiest parking — popular for solo travelers and couples. Class C is the cab-over (22-32 ft) that combines a truck chassis with a residential body, the most common family rental size.

What makes PickRV's motorhome cohort different
Every host in the host network has been onboarded by hand. PickRV requires identity verification via Stripe Identity, current vehicle registration, and Stripe Connect KYC. Hosts carry their own commercial policy; PickRV does not sell, provide, or verify insurance. We do not perform mechanical inspection — we publish what the host has documented and let you make the decision.
Renter service fee is zero percent. The price on the listing is the price at checkout, plus tax. PickRV is not an insurer and does not sell or offer coverage — you bring your own coverage; confirm your personal auto/RV policy covers rentals before pickup.
Cancellation is plain-English: 48 hours before pickup for a full refund minus a small processing fee. The terms are in the Terms of Service, not hidden in a help article.
How to pick the right Class for your trip
Class A pays off when your group is six or more, you are driving long highway days, and the destination has full hookups. It loses on twisty mountain roads, in older national-park campgrounds with site length limits, and on fuel cost.
Class B pays off for two travelers who want to chase weather, take detours, and park in normal-sized spots. It loses on living space — there is no real separation between sleeping, cooking, and toilet zones.
Class C is the default family answer. The cab-over bunk sleeps kids, the rear bed gives parents privacy, and the size band (22-32 ft) fits most NPS campground sites. Plan around the slide-out — sites under 30 ft of clearance will not accommodate a fully-extended Class C.
First-time motorhome renter checklist
Driver license: a standard Class D license covers any motorhome under 26,000 lbs gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) in every US state. Some Class A coaches over 26,000 lbs require a non-commercial Class B endorsement — your host will tell you before booking.
Insurance: PickRV is not an insurer and does not sell or offer coverage — you bring your own coverage. Your personal auto policy almost certainly does NOT extend to motorhome rentals, so confirm your own coverage before pickup.
Walkthrough: budget 60-90 minutes with the host at pickup. The systems on a motorhome (propane, fresh water, gray/black tanks, electrical) are not intuitive if you have never used them. Take video on your phone of every step.

- Is a motorhome the same as an RV?
- In US common usage, yes — but technically 'RV' is a broader umbrella that covers motorhomes plus towables (travel trailers, fifth-wheels, pop-ups). All motorhomes are RVs; not all RVs are motorhomes. This page covers self-propelled motorhomes only.
- Do I need a special license for a Class A?
- Most Class A coaches under 26,000 lbs GVWR drive on a standard Class D license. A few of the largest Class A diesel pushers exceed 26,000 lbs and may require a non-commercial Class B endorsement in your home state. The host will tell you before you book.
- What if I have never driven anything bigger than an SUV?
- Start with a Class B or smaller Class C. Skip Class A on your first rental. Watch the host walkthrough end-to-end, take video, ask for the manual. Drive 30 miles on local roads before getting on a highway.
- Are all PickRV motorhomes insured?
- Every host carries their own commercial RV insurance as a condition of listing. PickRV is not an insurer and does not sell, provide, or verify insurance — you bring your own coverage. Your personal auto policy almost certainly does not cover motorhome rentals.
- Can I book one today?
- If your destination state has a live host in our host network, yes. The state page shows real-time host count. If no host is live yet, you can save the trip and we will notify you when a host activates.
