New River Gorge National Park is not a developed-campground park

Designated the country's 63rd national park in December 2020 — the system's newest unit — New River Gorge wraps 53 miles of the New River canyon in southern West Virginia and is the most-visited NPS unit east of the Mississippi for whitewater + rock-climbing combined. None of the eight primitive NPS campgrounds (Stone Cliff, Grandview Sandbar, Glade Creek, Army Camp, Meadow Creek, War Ridge / Backus Mountain, Burnwood Group, Thurmond) offer hookups; most are first-come, all but two are dry-camp only. Length caps vary site by site — Stone Cliff and Grandview Sandbar accommodate larger rigs (30-35 ft) in pull-throughs; the others top out at 25 ft. Adventures on the Gorge and other private resorts adjacent to the park offer full-hookup RV options. The Bridge Day event on the third Saturday of October closes US-19 at the New River Gorge Bridge.
