Federal protection here dates to 1832 (Andrew Jackson signed the original reservation) — 40 years before Yellowstone and 60 before Sequoia, making this the oldest piece of land set aside by the federal government for public benefit. Gulpha Gorge Campground sits two miles from Bathhouse Row and holds 40 sites with 30A/50A electric and water at every site, sewer at some, 30-ft cap. Year-round operation, dump station on-site. The thermal water itself runs 143°F at the source and is piped to the two operating bathhouses (Buckstaff and Quapaw) plus public jug-fill stations along Bathhouse Row. Park road network is the urban grid of Hot Springs proper — easy navigation, ample parking near the bathhouses, but the West Mountain Drive's switchbacks tighten for 30-ft rigs.
