Joshua Tree National Park: An RV Traveler's Guide
PickRV Editorial
The small team behind PickRV
Joshua Tree National Park in southern California sits where two deserts meet — the higher Mojave, home to the namesake Joshua trees, and the lower Colorado Desert. Massive granite boulder piles, spiky yucca, and famously dark night skies draw RV travelers, climbers, and stargazers. It is an easy desert escape within a few hours of Los Angeles and Palm Springs.
Can you camp in an RV at Joshua Tree?
Yes. Joshua Tree has several NPS campgrounds, though many have limited hookups and rig-size constraints, and some fill fast. Spring and fall are ideal; summer is extremely hot. Confirm details on the NPS site.

Spring & fall
The boulder fields around Hidden Valley and Jumbo Rocks are the park's signature scenery, glowing warm at sunrise and sunset, while the open desert overhead makes for some of Southern California's darkest skies.
Summer brings dangerous heat and most visitors come in the cooler half of the year; services inside the park are minimal and the desert stays hot and dry.
Confirm current campground status, reservation windows, and vehicle-size limits on the National Park Service site before you go.
